From the glittery butterfly clips of the 90s to the massive flower crowns worn today, there is no shortage of statement hair accessories. Now, there’s one more—and it may make you hungry.
The new trend comes from China and it started with a simple plastic bean sprout—yep that’s right, a plant.
With clips ranging from fully bloomed flowers to small seedlings, children as well as adults are now wearing this wacky fashion-meets-salad flair.
The trend may have “sprouted” from a slew of sources ranging from ancient Chinese teachings about harmony with nature to the Teletubbies to popular Japanese-style emoticons, reports The New York Times.
Either way, it begs the question: which came first, the flower crown or the plant pot?
